China is seen variously as an ancient civilization extending over a large area in East Asia, a nation and/or a multinational entity.

China is one of the world's oldest civilizations and is regarded as the oldest continuous civilization. Prior to the 19th century, it possessed one of the most advanced societies and economies in the world; but through successive dynasties it then missed the industrial revolution and began to decline. In the 19th and 20th century, imperialism, internal weakness and civil wars damaged the country and its economy, and led to the overthrow of imperial rule.

In 1949, after major combat ended in the Chinese Civil War, two states calling themselves "China" emerged:

In the 1950s, change to economic policies in Taiwan transformed the island into a technology-oriented industrialized developed economy after a period of high growth rates and rapid industrialization. In mainland China, in the 1970s, reforms known as the Four Modernizations modernized the agriculture, industry, technology and defense, vastly raising living standards, and making the PRC one of the great powers.

Historically, China's cultural sphere has extended across East Asia as a whole, with Chinese religion, customs, and writing systems being adopted to varying degrees by neighbors such as Japan, Korea and Vietnam. Through its history, China was the source of many major inventions. It has also one of the world's oldest written language systems. The first evidence of human presence in the region was found at the Zhoukoudian cave. It is one of the earliest known specimens of Homo erectus, now commonly known as the Peking Man, estimated to have lived from 300,000 to 780,000 years ago.

Why does China have such a large population in comparison to others?
Q. You always hear about how China is always so over-populated and stuff, but I don't understand why that is. I mean, there are even bigger countries like Canada and Russia, both of which have smaller populations than China. Can anyone explain this to me?

A. its a big country, and the industry there is superior. Technology is magnificent, excellent. China is starting to defeat United States economically. But, thats pretty much why population is so big.

How is china considered a communist nation if they sell there labor for pennies to democratic nations?
Q. That completly eliminates and controdictes communism. The idea that your selling your goods, is entirely capitalistic and if your selling it to get some profit to pay those workers your therefore not a communist society. P.S. How is china a communistic country?
Asked by guest987654321 - Wed May 21 02:01:51 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. China had tried communism. But now they are Chinese-characterized Communism in which capitalism is alowed to exist. The government still has everything through the law, they can take personal property whenever they want. But they government chose to let people feel that they were in capitalism. So that people works harder than in communism. That is what the government willing to see. The government has the biggest corporation in most importance feild. The government have tax income and power tomonopolize the market. In other feild the government is the shareholder of mainstay corporation. In another word, the Chinese-characterized communism make the whole country a company.

Why does China buying USA bonds therefore peg the yuan to dollar exchange rate as low and stabilise the ER ?
Q. I am not an economist. If the USA runs up debt serviced by bonds, at present China buys the debt as bonds, gilts etc. This sounds ominous. This encourages US debt and keeps bond yields low, as they can easily find a buyer at present ? Surely it can all go horribly wrong if China, amongst others, stop buying ? My real question is why do they buy up US debt? What is the advantage for China in terms of dollar yuan exchange rates ?
Asked by awindsor200 - Tue Nov 11 07:14:50 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The advantage for China is that it keeps exports high, keeping the economy growing and the people happy. They have a lot of US dollars from the export business, so they invest in US dollar assets. They keep thier reserves of US dollars high to keep thier currency peg in place. If China stopped buying what would happen? I suspect that the US dollar would loose value, and imports to the US decrease, exports increase, a bit inflationary for the US, and might push up interest rates a bit, increasing the savings rate at home, would not be a bad thing. I doubt it would spell any sort of catastrophy.

China is a cultural region and ancient civilization in East Asia. China refers to a one of the world's oldest civilization comprising successive states and cultures dating back more than 6,000 years. Due to the stalemate of the last Chinese Civil War following World War II, China currently looks like two separate countries: the People's Republic of China (PRC) and Republic of China (ROC). The PRC administers and governs mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau, while the ROC administers and governs Taiwan and its surrounding islands. Each government used to claim that it was the only official government of China. However, PRC is nowadays widely accepted in the world as the only offical government.
